My Carina: Carina AA63 double headlights assembly part 1

September 10, 2014 in my carina

After being silent on the subject of my Carina for a while I’ve finally made some more progress: I’m assembling the Carina AA63 double headlights (after stripping and repairing them first):
Carina AA63 Double headlights assembly
This is only the right side assembly and unfortunately the left side has to wait a bit. And yes I know: it is definitely not the most beautiful glassfibre repair, but it will be hidden behind the grille anyway.

Why? Well it is waiting for the respray of some new old stock headlight surroundings: Read the rest of this entry →

HaCHiRoCK Festa 2013: Mekaru quad headlight Levin

November 2, 2013 in hachi rock

This is the last of the HaCHiRoCK Festa 2013 postings. Not that there is not more to show, but actually there is so much to show that I could continue for a good two weeks. 😛

Anyway, the last highlight is this kouki Levin AE86 by Mekaru:

When I saw the picture above it hit me like a bomb! Bam!

For some reason quad headlights never made it on Toyotas after 1983 and as the E80 family arrived in 1983 Toyota probably wanted to show it was all modern with the one-piece headlights. But what is there not to like about this quad headlight setup? Read the rest of this entry →

For sale: My JDMish Toyota Carina 1.6 DX TA60

May 25, 2013 in for sale, my carina, my carina

I made a tough decision last Monday: my Carina is for sale!
My Carina DX TA60 is for sale!
The reason why? Well I got an offer for a (project) car that I can’t refuse. 😉
My goal is to sell the whole as one lot, but if some buyer decides not to buy all the parts/JDM stuff I’ll put that here for sale seperately. So what does the whole package include?

Toyota Carina 1.6 DX TA60 Automatic
Built: 1982 (July)
Color: white (cream)
Mileage: 91874 km
Interior: black/cream white

The Carina has always had its checkups at a Toyota dealer and looks great for its age, but naturally there are some small points of attention: white stains on the windshield (outside viewing range so no MOT problem), rust on C-pilar near the left rear door, small parking dent on the right rear door but there is no scratch in the paint (some unknown person bumped into mine on a parkinglot and left without leaving a note).

The car has APK (Dutch MOT) till 7th of July 2013, exhaust has been replaced three years ago, waterpump last year and the car had its 90000 km checkup at the Toyota dealer October last year.
During the 90000 km checkup rust was revealed in the rear inner fenders and early 2013 this has been professionally fixed (by 2mmm sheetmetal) and the floorpan is now solid and rust free.
APK will naturally be prolonged by 2 years.

Carina Sightings: Belgian pre-production Carina GL

March 30, 2011 in carina sightings

I was going through the collection of Carina brochure pictures and one small detail stroke me on this brochure:
Belgian Carina GL
Belgian Carina GL

The Carina in the bottom picture is a Belgian Carina TA60 GL. Now that isn’t that weird, but the brochure is Japanese and dated as S56-9 (September 1981). The Carina A60 lineup was released in September 1981 so the Carina on the brochure must have been a pre-production model.

This was done by Toyota before, just like the Levin and Trueno AE86 European tour in 1983 but we’re talking about a left hand drive Carina here.

Also in this picture you can see the front of the car is actually featuring quad headlights:

Belgian Carina GL

Now it gets even more confusing and more and more questions arise!
Why did they feature a LHD pre-production car in Belgium in a JDM brochure? And why does it have quad headlights while all European models did only have the normal headlights? And where is that car now?
