It’s Friday so here is another video to enjoy: Nomuken drifting a Honda City Turbo II!
You can actually drift a Honda City Turbo II then? I thought they were front wheel drive!
Well yes you can: with a little bit of help from the handbrake and a Toyota Starlet Glanza V EP91 Turbo engine. The Honda City Turbo II also got the nickname bulldog, so does the Chihuahua refer back to the Toyota Starlet? Like a fancy dressed up hairless skinny bulldog?
Yesterday I posted an old video I downloaded once. Can you still remember the days before internet video sites like Youtube? Basically everybody downloaded and swapped movies online. I still remember having an FTP login on a server in Japan where grassroots videos were uploaded now and then…
Anyway, another one from the old shoebox: Keiichi Tsuchiya driving Ken Nomuras Nissan Skyline ER34. Video should be from somewhere 2001 or 2002: Ken Nomura started driving the ER34 in 2001 and I downloaded this video in 2002.
Judging from the old-man style driving the Dorikin did not really think it was that exciting to drive…
Not only do we see a 6 to 7 cars drifting snakelike all the way up a mountain in Tochigi, we also see Nomuken sitting shotgun in a Toyota Aristo (aka Lexus GS300) with automatic gearbox! The driver does manages to drift most corners and keep up with the S15 up front and the S14 behind him!
These first generation GS300s are already up for grabs for under 3000 euros, so that is very tempting! Only thing that is holding me back is the road tax: about 1000 euros per year! Compare that to the zero euros I pay for the Carina! :O
BTW: The plings indicate the huge dents in the guardrails!
You all knew Ken Nomura was able to drift himself to a third place in the D1GP this year, but what you didn’t know was that he has a much wider range of driving skills!
So what else can he do then? Well, parallel drift parking (30 cm space at each side of the car), popping a balloon while driving reverse, sharpen a pencil while driving reverse and last but not least: light a match while driving reverse! 😀 😀
Too bad he only uses his ER32 for the parallel drift parking… I really would loved to see him do the pencil sharpening with his ER34! 😉
I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw this one on IZ Reloaded!
If only I was 7 years older in 1978 it would have been a fun thing to do with my dad!! 😀
Same thing as above: if I only would have been a few years older I actually could have enjoyed the early days of D1GP:
As you can see it was a bit primitive back in the early 90s but nevertheless it was very enjoyable back then! The cars may have been a bit primitive but applying the handbrake to help the car slide was a common thing then as well!
And you can see them all: Ken Nomura, Manabu Orido, Manabu Suzuki and Keiichi Tsuchiya. All of them in early 90s outfits and without glasses! 😀
