A couple of days ago Japanese Nostalgic Car posted (yes I do read their blog occasionally) that because of their 75th anniversary Toyota created a big family tree of all models they created. Of course I immediately looked up the third generation Carina in it:
The nice thing is that they have a fairly good description on the timelines and model and it even includes what plat produced the car. The whole Carina lineup was produced in the Tsutsumi plant. They do mention the addition of the 1C diesel, 4T-GTE and 4A-GE engines but they forgot to add them to the specification sheet.
Another fun fact is that they set the release date to a specific date and in the case of the third generation Carina it was 7th of September 1981: coincidentally my dads birthday.
Direct links to the model pages:
Carina A60 sedan (RA63/TA61/TA63/SA60/AA60)
Carina A60 coupe (RA63/TA61/TA63/SA60/AA60)
Carina A60 Surf (SA60)
Carina A60 van (TA67)
You can also view the original/initial catalogs, but later ones are not included. Links to the catalogs:
Carina A60 sedan and coupe (September 1981)
Carina A60 Surf (February 1982)
Carina A67 van (September 1981)
If you really want to reverse engineer you can actually access the scanned pages of the catalogs directly. These are the first page and last page of the first catalog.
BTW: I just realized the old site got broken after the server upgrade a few months ago and the old content has disappeared. I’ll see if I can fix that.

Just found this excellent blog through one of the users in my Youtube subscriptions: it simply is bringing you brochures/catalogues, commercials, leaflets, tiny small details or just anything related to the Skyline!
Take for instance these two mid pages of an awesome Skyline 2000GT brochure! Just awesome stuff!
So go check it out: Since 1957

Earlier this week I came across this photo of a Carina rear view mirror on Minkara and it reminded me of the cover of one of the Carina catalogues I own.
The setting is almost the same, but the background isn’t
This is the catalogue cover I’m referring to: Read the rest of this entry →

Just imagine it is someone around the same age as your dad (or granddad of course) who drove this Mitsubishi Colt 1000 with his wife back in 1963 for the backside of the Colt A20 catalogue:
The photograph is done in a typical early 60s style: showing the magnificent progress (the car, the blurry neon lights), the mood (dark, gloomy and wet asphalt reflecting the tail lights) and of course usage of the colors (pastel like). Makes me wish I could have taken this photograph!
May 13, 2010 in Nissan Skyline R32
I found a bunch of Nissan Skyline R32 catalogue scans and thought it would be a great idea to glue them together into one single image. So behold the whole Nissan Skyline R32 range:
Nissan Skyline R32 all models
I never knew there was so much variety in the Skyline R32 range! I thought it only consisted of the GTS25, GTS-T, GTS4, GT-R and (of course) the GT-R Vspec. So the GXi, GTE and GTS models were quite a surprise to me…
Also funny to see how they used the lights to accentuate all other cars in the range to have the same widened fenders as the GT-R.
BTW: reminds me I still have to copy-paste such an image of all Silvia Generations
