Video: Chichibu touge videos from 1990

I found ae86lan adding these videos to his favorites on Youtube. The three videos are footage of touge runs in May 1990 with mainly AE86s, AE82s and Starlets. I must warn that there is hardly any drifting involved in these videos: most cars car grip driving up and down the touges around Chichibu.

The Skyline lookalike tail lights in the beginning of the clip are from a Nissan Langley. You can also spot around 4:00 a Celica AA63 and around 5:00 a Carina AA63.

Here is another video from that very same night:
Two more touge videos on the next page!

Another Hakone AE86 drift video

Over one year ago I posted a series of drift videos on the Hakone mountain pass, shot somewhere in 1995. In this video the same mountain pass, about 3 years earlier and this time only a zenki Corolla Levin AE86 is doing its drifts:

This guy is a very skilled drifter, he drifts both up and downhill. At the same time he manages to keep the car within the lines of the outer lanes through the whole corner!

Video: Nissan Skyline C110 development

I found an early 70s documentary about the development of the Nissan Skyline C110! It starts with the Prince R380 video I posted some time ago and continues with a C110 driving through Tokyo at 2:44:

The only touges we saw in the past were nicely paved mountain passes with screaming twin cams drifting in a downhill battle. Nice to see there were actually rough touges in the 70s!

The end of the first and second video continue on the design and testing of the C110:

The test track is, of course, the Oppama Grandrive. Funny to see they already covered the looks of the testcars/prototypes with black cloth as well back then!

The end of the second video and almost all of the third video concentrate on the Prince R380 and Skyline C10 racing history:

Some very famous races can be watched in these videos!

The end of the third video and the beginning of the fourth video show the crash testing of the C110:

The amount of vintage J-tin in that crash test wreck yard is heartbreaking! :(

I must say this is one of the nicest vintage videos I've seen in ages!

Touge drifting video from 1995

This amateur drift video (3 parts), made in 1995 on the Hakone Pass, also shows that AE86s back in those days were very popular as well. I counted at least 8 or 9 different hachi-rokus, however it is a bit difficult with so many stock hachis:

I did spot a Z10 Soarer, KE70 corolla and a KP61 starlet as well. Other popular cars are the RPS13 180sx and the S13 Silvia. Must say all these cars resemble the stock look of the early Initial D chapters, which of course is the same period. ;)

Toyota advertising touge drifting in 1982

This kind of amazed me: Toyota actually advertised touge drifting!!
This 1982 Starlet advertisement shows Ove Andersson drifting a Starlet down a mountain:

Only a year after this commercial they released the AE86 which became the icon for touge drifting. However nowadays Toyota keeps a lot of distance from most racing sports. Especially anything getting near road-racing, like drifting for example.
