Dunno what's the story of this gigantic silencer, but it surely must have looked very impressive in the late 80s:

21 years ago on the 1989 Tokyo Auto Salon when the Nissan Silvia S13, Mazda RX7 FC, Nissan Skyline R31, Toyota Supra JZA70, Nissan 300ZX Z31 were still fresh and tuned to the max:

Quite a difference, right! :P

Also note the Nissan Skyline R32 is missing here! The R32 debuted in May 1989 (press release) and was only for sale in July that year. So naturally it was absent on the Auto Salon...

I saw this amazing video containing all Japanese Nissan Skyline commercials being announced a few weeks back on a Minkara blog:

This DVD covers almost all models: from the second generation (S50), third generation (C10 aka hakosuka), fourth (C110 aka Kenmeri) and up to the tenth generation (R34)!

I was able to find the DVD on Amazon Japan (スカイライン CMコレクション [DVD]), but I haven't seen it for sale elsewhere... Now if only the shipping costs from Japan weren't that steep... :(

As B-San already commented: pictures of the Nostalgic 2 days already were available in the past days. I searched on Minkara and picked out the nicest I could find:
