down on the street

DOTS: 1990 Nissan 200SX drifter

It doesn't happen very often anymore that I encounter interesting cars down on the streets. Finding a interesting Japanese sportscar like this Nissan 200SX RS13 is quite rare and what is even rarer: it is used as a grassroots drift car!

Judging from the side this car has seen some action already. And what was more surprising: the 200SX passed me a couple of days later and the driver turned out to be a girl.

The rear of the car was empty and a strutbrace was placed between the two rear towers to give the body more stiffness.

DOTS: Miata hunting! (part eightteen)

No I'm not dead...yet. I'm just in holiday mode so a bit less postings will be made in the upcoming weeks.

Not to refrain you from your daily dose of JDMness I'll give you the photo of this Miata I spotted earlier this week:

As you can see it rained heavily meaning a topless Miata would have been no fun at all!
You don't see too many black Miatas, so I guess this one really is an exception to the rule. :)

DOTS: 1984 Brown Nissan Laurel C31

No it's color is not brown because of the rust on it. Even though it does have some rusty spots, this Laurel is still in a fairly good condition. Only on the left side it does need some attention to its doors.

I spotted it around the corner from where I work. Never saw it before at that spot but I did spot the Laurel a few times around town.

This particular Laurel is one of the last C31s sold in the Netherlands (replaced by the C32 in 1984) and it features the trusty 2.4 liter L24 propelling the brown Apollo to amazing speeds with 130ps.

Actually it is not really a Down On The Street entry since I did not find it parked alongside of the road. I actually visited the owner of this car with the intention of buying it!

The car is in excellent condition, especially if you realize this car is 33 years old. I did not find a spec of rust under the car, nor inside the fenders! The only rust on it was on one of the rear fenders and the other rear fender had a small paint problem. Also there is a dent in the roof you don't see it immediately and it is easy to fix when you already are respraying the rear fenders... :)

Driving it was a hoot: it drives way more relaxed than the Carina. It also feels lower and I immediately got the urge to cut its springs and lower it even more (with a bunch of deep dish steelies)! Also the (almost) JDM fender mirror are something else and make the car look perfect!

Why I didn't buy it? Well my wife told me I had to sell the Carina if I wanted to buy the Cressida. Very sane thought but a very unfortunate for the Cressida: I can't sell my Carina!

The color may look a bit weird, but I haven't been able to get the colors of the Cressida right. Somehow it always is either too yellow or too vale. See also the photo I took of the car at the JAF2011:

The color is somewhere inbetween...

If you are interested in the car, let me know and I'll forward your inquiries to the owner.

DOTS: 1980 Crown MS112 Super Saloon

During one of my early morning cycles to work I encountered a familiar face that I saw a few months before: a Toyota Crown S110!

Toyota Crown MS110 Super Saloon

The car is a 1980 Toyota Crown Super Saloon and was delivered originally to the Netherlands. That is quite rare these days since most older cars seem to be imported from either Germany or Switzerland who have a bit less classic friendly laws nowadays.

In this case it turned out to be a Crown MS112 featuring the 2.8 liter 5M-EU engine.
