Corolla TE71

Corolla Levin TE71 Super Silhouette

Of all Super Silhouette cars the Nissan Skyline RS Turbo DR30 was the most iconic, but as we know there were other cars as well. The Nissan Silvia S110 (and S12), Nissan Bluebird 910 and Mazda RX7 were the most well known. What I didn't know yet was that there also was a (private) Toyota Corolla TE71 sibling:

It looks a bit like a minified version of that famous Silvia S110! The car is actually doing quite well: it ends up at the third place! An amazing result!

JCS 2010 highlights (part one)

I just uploaded all worthy pictures I took at Japan Classic Sunday 2010. I haven't commented them yet but I surely will do that in the upcoming week. I'll also start posting pictures from the meet now and then. Let's kick off with some highlights!

Trip to the JCS 2010
Trip to the JCS 2010

The trip to JCS was already a highlight! Five old/youngtimers cruising on the highway and of course we could all keep up with modern traffic. Only the TE71 (currently an AE71 with 20v blacktop) had some difficulties now and then: who says a blown headgasket can keep you from going to a meeting? So he just filled up that radiator with some water now and then... ;)

Video: MotorFIX AE70 wagon fixed!

This Corolla E7 meeting (held yesterday at Asagiri Kogen) video was uploaded today by ae86lan. Not only does it show some really great E7s (like the beautifully N2 flared TE71!) but at 2:19 it shows the best news I've heard/seen in the past months: the MotorFIX AE70 wagon all fixed up again!

On close up you can see it has been reinforced in every way possible, so hopefully it is strong enough for all the abuse and it will withstand another impact!

The black N2 flared TE71 intrigues me a bit: it has deep dish Hayashi Streets, AE86 N2 fender flares, Sprinter front fenders and round headlights. Its looks remind me a bit of the yellow Group B Starion but then, of course, much better and improved.

Oh and let's not forget the two Carinas at 3:12! Yum! :)

Model cars by Jon2

I still remember my first model car kit: it was a modified König Ferarri Testarossa. It took me more than a month to complete it and it looked...uhm...interesting... After that model kit I tried my luck with another, but the result remained the same: it looked like crap!

So I decided model kits were not the thing for me. Then I forgot about it and made the same mistake by buying a Oh My Goddess! Belldandy model and tried to do it right this time. It is still looking great in half completed state. ;)

That's why I have a lot of respect for the people who are capable of doing model kits and doing them the right way. For example I came across joh2 on Youtube who posted amazing videos of his model kits in all different states/steps of completion. My personal favorite is this red 4 door Toyota Corolla TE71:

I really like his personal touches, like the black vinyl roof (my dads TA60 Carina used to have one!), the sunroof, the hood scoop and the trunk spoiler!

Another great one is this second generation CRX:

And his last creation, a Corolla Levin AE86:

Carina Sightings: Carina TA62 Coupe in Czech republic

Today 86ers.org posted about the Czech duo Franz & Tonda. Franz & Tonda have a nice garage full of old JDM tin, like a Corolla TE71, a (almost deteriorated) AE86, a 280ZX, a Toyota MR2, a widebody Mitsubishi Starion and a TA62 Carina Coupe! :)

It turns out to be a familiar Carina for me: Franz already visited AEU86 in the past!

From the pictures the Carina still looks very nice, but if I understood Franz correctly the bottom is very very rusted and the interior is not too wel either. I really hope Franz and Tonda have time to restore the TA62 and stop its deterioration!

As you can see from the stance of the rear wheels the TA62 has the same live axle as the TA60 (and the AE86) and does not feature the IRS as found on the TA63 or AA63 (Japanese GT models). Nevertheless it would look pretty wild with some deep dish Hayashi Streets on it! :)

Single carb 3T engine
Single carb 3T engine

From the pictures of the engine I can see it has a single carburetor so it is featuring the 1.8 3T. Basically the same engine as the 2T in my Carina, but then with 0.2 liter more displacement than mine. Also a 3TC has a dual carb setup, so that difference is easy to spot. ;)

If you are curious to the other cars of their collection, you can find them here:
