Corolla KE30

Got a mixed bag of Toyota commercials from Japan: Starlet KP60 Trans Europe trial, Corona T100, Celica XX mk1, Chaser MX30 and the KE30 saloon!

Even though I live in Europe, in a country next to Germany I still have no idea what the Trans Europe Trial actually is... It must have been something like Toyota wanted to prove the Starlet was an excellent car for European roads, therefore it would certainly be an even better car for the Japanese roads!

The Corona T100 looks like it would have been sophisticated back in a day, but with those features (central warning light, 5mph bumpers) you can even find on BYDs nowadays!

And that Chaser MX30! Of course if you first run it flat out on the saltflats (who put those lines there??) you definitely need to wash your hair!

It is time for some more rustoseums! :)

Let's start with this four door Nissan Skyline sedan:

Nissan Skyline R32 4 door sedan

As you can see it must have had some really big fender extenders which now have been removed. Would that mean the fender extenders were considered more expensive than the Skyline?

What about a nice Toyota Mark II X7 wagon with some plants on it?

Is it actually going to be used as a flowerbed? Or did the owner intend it to grow into a Crown MS120 wagon?

Somehow I always smile when I see these third generation Honda Accords:

The front of the car really resembles the Trueno. Of course the bumper is a bit different, but it is styled closer to a Trueno than the Silvia S12! Sad to see this example without its eyes...

A really (c)rusty Corolla KE30:

And it has got the great looking hubcaps!

Personally I thought this was a first generation Cedric 130, but the poster of the picture says it is actually a Isuzu Bellet sedan:

Bellet sedan? Were those actually made??

Remember this one?
Toyota Corolla KE30 pickup in front of a European looking house
Toyota Corolla KE30 pickup in front of a European looking house

I posted it here shortly before Christmas:

Must have missed this JNC blogposting during the holidays:
http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/blog/2008/12/28/rs-yasus-nissan-sunny-b1...
Because the Corolla KE30 pickup turns out to be a Nissan Sunny B122 pickup. Must have overlooked that it could possibly be a Sunny and not a Corolla. Well, they do look very much alike after all. ;)

First watch this advertisement and then read my comments. ;)

At first I saw the 1975 Toyota Corolla KE30 (great in 75!) and then the 1981 Toyota Corolla KE70 (tops in 81!) I thought I struck gold and found a US advertisement for the Toyota Corolla GT-S AE86! But no: it is a South African advertisement for the new Toyota Corolla EE80! (go one better!)

Lovely 80s setting with dancers in tracksuits! Back in 1984 the moonwalk was the hottest thing so it is amazing to see that EE80 moonwalking with the dancers! :D

Apparently the idea back then was that the FWD EE80 was much better than the RWD KE70 (It's a whole new number!) which may be true for the masses but not for us! (Sorry Siert!) It's got more space than the KE70 but it lacks the potential of the KE70. Ah well, back in those days people were not thinking about engine and transmission swaps in throwaway cars like the Corolla... Times really have changed!

Still, these cars are fine cars for the less enthusiastic people and I even have a member on AEU86 who swapped in a 4AGE in a Sprinter liftback! But that is of course an exception. ;)

Everything keeps going right! Toyota!
Ahum... Well, the rest is history I guess. ;)

Remember the worlds most ugly hubcaps?

You can see them in action in the first 13 seconds of this Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan clip:

BTW: the rest of the clip is hilarious: some Darth Vader look alike turns all students into borg (did Star Trek steal that idea from this episode?). It gets very funny when the gymnastics vault next to the girl turns to be a styrofoam borg as well.
