Carina sightings

Last friday Michael from Retro Classics posted some pictures of the New Zealand Nationals 2010, including a Carina AA63 coupe going head to head with a Corolla AE70 hardtop:

The coupe features a set of SSR Longchamps at front and some less wide rims at the rear (probably the extra set of tires). It looks very good with the Longchamps, so a mental note to myself: buy a set whenever you can get them! ;)

Dunno what's up with the hood, but it looks loose on the picture above and fastened on the picture below:

Somehow the Carina single headlights look much better on a coupe than on a sedan!

You can find more pictures of the Carina, Corolla and many other great classics (like a 810910 Bluebird hardtop!) on Retro Classics blog or at their Flickr page.

I found this 4AGTE converted AA60 Carina coupe from Tawau (Malaysia) on Youtube some time ago:

Unfortunately there is no more footage of that car than this video. However you can view a lot of other cool TE71/KE70/AE86 Corollas and AT141 Coronas on Fookiun's Youtube page.

This week more videos from nasubiayu!

More of the white AT142 Corona and the black Carina coupe AA63:

This time joined by a KE70 four door sedan.

And how about this Carina tearing up the last corner before straight on Mobara:

And as a bonus:

Another video of the white AT142 Corona hardtop coupe!

More than two years ago I posted my wallpaper @ work:

Twin drifting aa63 carina 4dr, aa63 carina 2dr and T142 Corona 2dr coupe

Yes, two Carinas and a Corona doing a tandem drift!

Well, today you can see this exact picture in motion in this video:

The white Carina sedan is an AA63, the black Carina coupe is also an AA63 and the Corona is an AT142. That lovely sound is from the squealing the tires and those three 4AGEs screaming down that corner! I love it! :)

BTW: Currently I have a different wallpaper (to be precise: an orange Luxembourgh Levin), but I think this is a good reason to switch back to this one! ;)

I spotted the pictures of Davy's Carina at first at Phils car blog, then headed over to Garage Slipway to read the whole story behind its run on Hampton Down.

Here the Carina is still running fast, but after only a couple of laps he heard a loud thudding noise and pulled up in the pits. Apparently nothing looked weird and he headed back on the track.

Had a look and couldn’t determine what it was. So what the heck I went out again. Then halfway around the track BANG, then no power. To be specific, no fuel as the line snapped and wrapped around the driveshaft which bought my car to a halt at the first hairpin.

The fuel line was probably grabbed by the driveshaft after it had some sort of in imbalance. Seen such a thing happen with Mux's Levin AE86 and it turned out that one of the bolts on the rubber pivot was broken off. You can imagine what happens next when you are driving hard on a circuit. :o

I must say the JDM zenki Trueno AE92 bumper suits Davy's Carina very well!

And this is how the Carina remained the rest of the session:

Parked up in the pits. A sad sight. :(
