Carina Sightings: Ukrainian Carina GT

Two weeks ago Andrew sent me a picture of his Carina GT and asked me if I was interested in more pictures and info regarding it. Of course I am! ;)

His Carina GT is a 3A-U powered GT model and was delivered originally to Krivoy Rog city in the Ukraine in 1982! I didn't even know it was possible to buy anything else than Russian cars like the VAZ range. The 3A-U powered GT model is a bit puzzling, however the car has a GT cluster (with an oil pressure meter in the middle) and it was an export model so the designations could be different from the JDM badges.

When the first owner passed away the car remained in storage and was not abused untill his children were old enough to make some small damage at the front of the car:

Car chases: Abunai Deka full episode

Your rating: None Average: 4 (1 vote)

Remember the Abunai Deka driving some Pontiac Firebird Trans Am? Well, the full episode has been uploaded by abunaideka1989 on Youtube. The episode starts a bit slow, but I really liked this second part:

First of all their 4 door Skyline R31 gets some bulletholes from an old geezer, then when they stop at a gas station they almost get run over by a RA45/TA45 Carina GT. :D
Lucky enough the Carina survives well! :P

Not enough car chases in that part? What about his fourth part with a lot of sideways action by a Cefiro A31:

Carina Sightings: Carina GT coupe TA45

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

This week we don't feature an A60 Carina, but the previous generation of the Carina. Basically it was the predecessor of the TA61 Carina GT, but it didn't have the IRS as found on the TA61 yet. IRS was only available for the Celica Camry model, which was basically a facelifted Carina A40 with IRS.

So, why feature the TA45 then? Well, because of a topic on Japanese Nostalgic Car forum about that car. It contains a link to where it is sold and I was stunned by its beauty! I'd say let the pictures (and video) speak for itself...

Just look at those lines: it looks like a minified Nissan Skyline Japan C210! A small downside is that the bumpers were already made from plastic, so less chrome on the car. :(

There was also a video attached showing the passengerside and interior of the car. I took the liberty of downloading the video and uploading it to Youtube and preserve it for future generations:

That gives you a nice impression of the interior: immaculate! But here are some additional pictures of the interior and GT seats of the car:

The GT seats may not be as impressive as the bucket like seats of the third generation Carina, but they sure look comfortable enough while taking on some tight corners. ;)

Furthermore the car is on a perfectly correct set of Watanabe RS eight spokes:

And last but not least its heart: the fuel injected 2T-GEU engine!
