Carina sightings: Carina SG Coupe AA60 with digi dash!

I found this great looking Carina SG Coupe AA60 on Cardomain:

According to its owner the car was produced in 1988 and imported to Malaysia in 1991. Being produced in 1988 means it has been catted with a sedan VIN since the coupe was discontinued in june 1985 or it was imported and put on papers with a different build date… Either way it is still looking great for its age! ;)

What I really love are those deep rims! They make the car look a lot more aggresive!

I didn’t know the AA60 came with a digidash as well, but apparently it could have been ordered as an option. It must be original since its redline is set at 6000rpm.

Also a very nice feature according to the owner: when the car reach 105+km/h, the dash board will ring the warning “ding dong” continues until u slow down… -_-. Definitely want one now! :D

And what is under its bonnet nowadays? Its 1.5 liter 3A-U has been swapped for a 4AGE in june 2009! :)

Can’t wait for more updates on this car!

Nissan Skyline GC10 van

I love the linework of the Nissan Skyline KPGC10, I also love them on the 4 door Skyline GC10 but what I do like best are the continuing lines in the GC10 van!

As you can see in this video the lines of the coupe and 4 door saloon are sloping further up along the side of the bodywork towards the bottom of the rear lights. Looking at those lines it really looks like some designer put a lot of effort in that line work!

Compare that to several vans and wagons made nowadays, like this 2001 Baleno for instance:
You can still see the sedan in its lines

As you can see it just looks like a sedan with a big hump on its back! You can still see the original sedan lines and its designers did not even make an attempt to continue its lines properly. Of course in the end it is all a matter of money…

So, to please your eyes again a picture of how it should be done:

Video Option covering drifting in 1992

A long long time ago drifting was not a popular sport and Keiichi Tsuchiya wasn’t in every Video Option, Hot Version or Drift Tengoku episode you could find! Even covering the drift scene was quite rare! However in those early days Video Option was actually one of the few to cover that scene at all!

The following video from 1992 covers the street drifting, organized drifting and even a few of the “bloopers”:

Amazing! Nobody would even think about using a Nissan Skyline GC110 for drifting nowadays! They are simply worth too much and they are almost as rare as a KPGC10 nowadays! Imagine what people will think in 15 years of us using Skyline R32s and Toyota AE86es for drifing! ;)

What Keiichi Tsuchiya did do was being a judge in drift competitions! This second part covers the Fukuoka National Racing competition:

Amazing! Keiichi Tsuchiya was, just like Daijiro Inada, young back then! :D

It is funny to see him freak out on a Nissan Silvia S13 locking up the rear wheels with the handbrake and drift through the corner at 20 km/h! Imagine that the current slowmotion replays of the D1GP have quicker cornering than that! :D

Of course I do understand that back then the skill mattered more than entry speed. Looking at the result of that match the AE86 did win fair and square!

DOTS winter edition: Miata hunting part 3!

Yesterdays I already posted a snow covered Nissan 200SX S14 in the Down on the Street winter edition. Today I’m posting up some of the Mazda MX5s and Miatas I shot pictures of the day it had snowed!

First of all I took a picture of the white Miata near the nursery of my son:
White Mazda Miata covered in snow!

I don’t think the color of this Miata can be called snow-white! ;)
As you may recall this Miata had a dent in its front fender. About two weeks ago this Miata disappeared for a few days and when it returned its front fender had been repaired! So it is certainly not going the same way as the Nissan 200SX! ;)

Red Mazda Miata covered in snow!

Of course I took a picture of the red Miata as well. I must say that a snow covered red Miata looks a lot better than a white snow covered Miata!

And last but not least, this Blue MX5 mk2:

I did not post this one before, but since all three of them were “on the way” from the nursery to my work I took a short detour to make the three pictures needed for this posting.

All pictures were kept as dark and gloomy as my EOS shot them: I took those pictures around sunrise so they are supposed to be a bit dark.

DOTS winter edition: Nissan 200SX S14 covered in snow!

Two days ago it started snowing in the Netherlands, so of course I had to take pictures of some of the cars I covered before. I had to wait till yesterday before I could make some pictures of the Nissan 200SX S14 covered in snow.

Funny how this S14 turns out to have the looks of a S14a when covered in snow! The headlights are now less round and appear to be sloping up a bit!

I couldn’t tell anything about the state of the car since it was covered in snow. But I don’t think these few inches of snow will do any good to the uncovered parts.

I also decided not to try to get hold of the car: I don’t think another project will do me any good. ;)

Tomorrow we have *another* DOTS winter edition with a few snow covered Miatas!

Hilarious: Midget II chicken race

This chicken race video is very funny to watch:

Apparently Gan-san’s reaction gets worse during the years: he doesn’t even manage to brake in time and stay within the marked area!

And you can even fit two people in it:

And if you thought those Midgets are for losers, how about this tuned Midget II sitting on a set of SSR Mk 1s?

I’d swap my Carina for that Midget II without hesitation! :D :D
