Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Month: October 2009 (Page 2 of 6)

Got sick?

As you may have noticed on bosozokustyle.com the posts have dried up a bit… Same will happen here. ๐Ÿ˜

I’ve been sick since last Thursday evening and unable to write anything since then. Lucky enough I do create some posts beforehand which will get posted when scheduled (a few dots and exhaust of the week) but I’m not sure when I feel well enough to post again… I am feeling a bit better tonight and let’s hope it stays that way!

I have no idea what I have but I will see the doctor tomorrow. Let’s hope it’s not swineflu! ๐Ÿ˜‰

DOTS: Even more scruffy looking Nissan 200SX S14

When I started with the Down on the Streets series I posted the Scruffy looking Nissan 200SX S14 in the second feature. Back then I wrote that there was a lot of moss growing under it and the paint was falling off the bumper… Those first pictures were taken in june, so I stopped by the car early september and things got worse:

There were already a lot of leafs and dirt on the car: not very shocking.

What was shocking was this:

The paint starts to get blisters all over the car and falls off on other parts as well!

Let’s zoom in on that passenger door:

Currently only surface rust so it can still be repaired.

And the boot wasn’t much better than the passenger door…

So of course I paid a visit early October to see how bad things got now:

Even more leafs and dirt on the car!

What about the passenger door then?

Rust didn’t get any worse than before, however more blisters can be seen on the door…

And the boot?

Same story as the door: rust didn’t get worse but the amount of blisters did…

To prevent this car from getting worse I left a note on the car but haven’t received any answer yet. Will try again soon! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Contest: win a copy of Need for Speed Shift

I was already fed up with the game after only playing it for a week. I won’t get into details, nor will I make the pun on its title. So, I decided to deinstall Need For Speed Shift and give it away for free in a small contest. ?(ยด?`)/

The contest is simple, just name the TV show this “blooper” is taken from:

and send it through the contact form with the subject “CONTEST” before next saturday 0:00 CEST (October 31st 2009). From all correct answers I will pick a winner (random) and announce it later that day on the portal.

The prize:
prize for the contest: nfs shift

Disclaimer: The copy is a European version of the game (so you will have the annoying language selection menu) and I can’t guarantee it will allow you to install it since I already installed it on one single computer and played it only for the first league. The game was deinstalled though. If you want to I can put my signature on it and it may be a suitable wall decoration!

Hilarious: Star Trek versus tokusatsu!

If you thought tokusatsu was bad, the first Star Trek series was even worse:

It has got it all:
– Slow motion fighting? Check!
– Good guys in spandex and bad guys in rubber suits? Check!
– Fighting in deserted remote areas? Check!
– Lifting heavy boulders and throwing them in a straight line while landing 30 feet higher than the angle was pointing to? Check!
Yes, Captain Kirk surely did learn a lot about tokusatsu from his crewmember Hikaru Sulu…

To give you another feast for your eyes (and something to compare to), watch this:

Now, which one was worse? Star Trek or Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman?
(Actually I did not dare to post this example for obvious reasons… I mean: one of the good guys disguising himself as Hitler? WTF!?)

Next week more tokusatsu?

Commercial time: Japanese Gran Turismo PSP commercial

I saw this video today on Jalopnik:

Apart from the fact that all the people on Youtube think they actually used a Countach and a Stingray (yeah right!), how can you advertise two vintage cars damaging each other on a track in a game that doesn’t even have a damage system? ?(???;)

Maybe the advertising agency already had this commercial made for Gran Turismo 5 and got fed up with the delays… Or maybe they want to give you the impression the game is cooler than it actually is… (ยด?`)y-~~

That brings me to the fact that I must admin I haven’t bought Gran Turismo for the PSP yet! Shame on me! But the problem is mainly that the sound of my PSP is broken (left some earphones in and travelled with it) and I still haven’t bought a new PSP ever since.

Carina Sightings: Portuguese Carina TA60 sedan

I was browsing the Portuguese car sale portal Standvirtual and searched for interesting cars and found this very good looking Toyota Carina TA60 sedan:

Basically the same as mine, but what caught my eye was the asking price for this car: only 550 euros!

Minor dent above the exhaust, but it’s bootlid appears to be rust free…

…and from the side it also appears to be rust free, so it can’t be rust!

Interior looks as good as mine…

…and also has the three point seatbelts on the rear seats!

And the doors are also as rust free as mine… The car has 80000 kilometers on the odometer, so that’s roughly the same as mine… And I don’t think the price includes the dog…

So, you may ask why is this car this cheap then? It is simple: the car is an unwanted car! It is not a Celica or the sporty Corollas (TE71 or AE86) and AFAIK Portugal has no legislation for 25 year old cars like The Netherlands has. Basically it is considered an old clunker… The car has no papers! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Thanks to Santos for the correction!

Now, who can chip in for a one way ticket to Lissabon?? ๐Ÿ˜‰
