Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Nissan in 1965

Some time ago I saw an ad on Marktplaats selling a brochure Nissan 1965 without any picture with it. The description sounded good, it was fairly cheap (considering the age of it) and I contacted the seller. He didn’t have any possibility to send me pictures so I took the “risk”. Few days later this arrived:

It is actually a book of 50 pages and it is entirely in English. It was meant to be given away to new possible import companies and dealerships.

It shows the modernized Nissan during the early 60s: a modern car lineup, healthy figures, four modern production plants and even a test facility! Their growth is amazing during the late 50s and early 60s: between 20% and 25% growth each year!

As you can see: they have a model for almost everyone! On the front row the Fairladies on the left, the bluebird 410s in the middle and the new Silvia on the right. On the second row all the Cedrics are lined up. On the remaining rows all the utilitarian vehicles are shown.

This is the Oppama plant (????) in Yokosuka with a private pier at the Tokyo Bay and you can also see the test track on the background. The plant was considered the most modern car factory back in 1961 when it was opened and later in 1970 the first car factory to make use of robot welding. The test track is the very same as the one used in the 1960s Nissan Bluebird crashtest videos I posted some time ago.

And of course their latest product: a 1595cc two seater listening to the lovely name Silvia.

There is much much more in this book and I’m very happy I took the gamble to buy this unseen. A true gem! 🙂

Hilarious: more WTF moments in Tokusatsu!

If you thought last weeks Star Trek versus tokusatsu was bad, this is even worse! I watched some more of the The WTF Moments in Tokusatsu and picked the best ones for you, starting with this one:

Loved that one? How about showing some more love…

to your motorcycle??

Already hungry for more? Skip till 0:31 for this one:

And last but not least, this one has a great surprise at 0:56…

Let’s all fight in front of a Toyota Soarer Z10! 😀

And the great thing is they keep on posting more and more of that stuff here!

Comments working again?!

B-San sent me an email through the contact form pointing me out that when you sent in a comment it would take ages to submit and after some time it just gives the error message “service unavailable”. Thanks for that! 😉

I tried it myself without being logged in (normally I am logged in when replying) and it gave me the same error. I disabled the spam filtering to see if that resolves anything and all of a sudden it worked again.

I guess the spam filtering providers has some difficulties and sent them an email. I keep the spam filtering disabled until I cleared that up. 😉

Of course, if it works for me it doesn’t say anything about that it will work for others. So please let me know if everything works okay now!

Doing the Itsuki IRL

TonyA. from FuzzyFeeling posted some old videos from some Silvias drifting on Mikuni pass way way back in 2003 by Youtube user kcrmsr. kcrmsr posted some other videos as well so naturally I browsed all of them till there was no video left to watch. 😉

This one was a quite funny one, where he is doing an Itsuki in one of the Silvias (starting at 1:09):

People who have seen Initial D will probably know exactly what I mean with doing an Itsuki, for others: in the episode “The Rainy Downhill!” from Stage One Kenta Nakamura (member of the Red Suns) challenges Takumi for a downhill race in the rain on Mt. Myogi. Takumi accepts and asks Itsuki (who hitched a ride from Takumi) to sit on the rear bench of the Trueno. In effect Itsuki adds extra weight on the rear wheels while tumbling from left to right (and vice versa) through the interior of the Trueno.

As you can see, IRL it is the same. The guy can’t even sit straight while cornering the first three turns and on the last turn he almost ticks over…

Carina Sightings: Blue Carina Sedan

Apart from its color, this Carina Sedan looks really blue:

You can see the paint is already blistering and fading away. In my opinion it looks like a bad respray done 15 to 20 years ago…

It sits on its original rims and it has AC, power windows and power steering as luxury options. It still has its original 4A-GE with only 159000 kilometers on its odometer, so that engine should still be purring like a kitten!

It may not sound much, but you can’t complain for a car that is for sale at Auctions Yahoo and has a current bid of only $500! Even better: it has a buy me now option of only $1600! The auction will end in about 5 hours, so if you are quick you can just get it for $501! 😉

You can find its auction here: Blue Carina GT-R AA63 on Auctions Yahoo

Got better!

I have almost fully recovered now! I will start posting from tomorrow onwards again! 🙂

We went to the doctor (together with my son) and it turned out to be, as the doctors say, a bad gastroenteritis. In other words: flu which only affects the digestion system. So it couldn’t be swineflu. Besides that: I haven’t eaten any pig for ages so it can’t be swineflu after all. 😉

BTW: is the contact form also sick or is the contest that difficult? I have only received one single solution to the contest so far and that is my own to test the contact form…
