Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Month: March 2009 (Page 2 of 4)

I missed Seibu Keisatsu last Friday

I kind of miss Seibu Keisatsu on Friday when Japanese Nostalgic Car Blog doesn’t post it in the Friday Video. This weeks My Lucky Stars was a good substitute, but it clearly missed the brutality of Seibu Keisatsu!

Lucky enough I browsed some pages on images.google.com last friday and found a site among the links which actually has a every episode listed in them, and not only that: it also features the complete car list of the Police! :)
Seibu Keisatsu Cedric C330s used by the Police
Seibu Keisatsu Cedric C330s used by the Police

It also features a lot of background information, like in the case of the C330s above it states that this generation of Cedrics mainly were used as police cars to be blown up or crash by the bad guys during the chases. What a bad fate for these beautiful cars!

Anyway, you can find the site here:

If you’re only interested in the cars, you can find the car listing here:

Go!Go! Daijiro 3 DVD box

I’ve become quite a fan of Daijiro Inada over the past years and now I see this DVD box has become available from Video Option lately:

I really want this DVD set! Surely looks like hours and hours of fun! :)
I also spotted him visiting the workshop of Daisuke Shouten and finally we can see all his series of rides in historical cars like the older Skylines, Silvias, Levin/Trueno, etc.

Now if only the Yen would drop a bit I would be able to order this…

Hilarious: twouble with twitters

Sorry, this week a non cars and non Japanese culture related hilarious posting!

I did find this great video on The Dutch Cowboys in a discussion about how Twitter is regarded as “not real life” by non-Twitarians. This video really did hit the nail on the head:

Only flaw was that they should have used the verb “to tweet” instead of “having to twitter about this”.

I’m sorry if you don’t have Twitter and doesn’t understand how funny this video is: I guess it is really hard to explain to a non-Twitarian why this video is so true…

Downhill on Irohazaka with an AE86

Hachiroku.com.au blog posted this amazing video of an AE86 chasing down the Irohazaka touge today:

This guy is almost as amazing as Takumi. Yes I do say almost: he’s sane enough not to jump. However Takumi is doing the same downhill twice in Initial D The Movie (Third Stage) and that is a cartoon and not in real life!

Irohazaka touge are actually two passages: one going uphill and one going downhill. This is quite unique and great for drifing unleashed: nobody can go uphill while chasing down the downhill! The video was shot around 2002, so that is about one year after Third Stage and they probably have speed bumps in this downhill like they did on Mount Haruna.

And for those sceptics who say you can go about twice as fast in Arcade Stage 3: that’s arcade! Did you ever see anyone from Street Fighter 2 alpha running around the streets then??

Random: Nomuken police special!

Some time ago I came across this bizarre video of Ken Nomura (aka Nomuken) in two situations with the police:

In the first part he’s driving his 180SX RPS13 Type X, second part is him a bit older driving a Nissan Laurel C33 police car in a Blitz outfit. The first part appears to be put into scene but is quite funny to watch and the second part is just hilarious: chasing a small drifting kei car with that big C33 Laurel!

The big questions are: why is he driving his RHD 180SX type X in the US when this car was not his professional drifter after 2000 and where can I buy a C33 Laurel? :P
